David Scott Farrar is the Chief Technical Officer and Thermal Scientist at Farrar Scientific Corporation, a company he founded in 1997. He is a visionary entrepreneur with 32 years of professional experience in the engineering field, with a desire to meet the demands of various marketplaces with the highest quality possible.
Mr. Farrar began his career as a Research Assistant at his alma mater, Penn State University, after earning both a B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering. From Pennsylvania, he moved to Marietta, Ohio to spend three years at Forma Scientific, where he was employed as Custom Engineering Department Manager, then R & D Senior Mechanical Engineer. A position as the Chief Engineer for Environmental Specialties Inc. took him to North Carolina for three years, before returning to Marietta, Ohio and Forma Scientific. Mr. Farrar spent five more years at Forma Scientific as OEM Business Unit Manager, R & D Strategic Products Department Manager, then Principal Engineer of R & D and Custom Engineering Departments. That was followed by two years in New York, as Vice President of R & D for the Spectronic Instrument Division of Thermo Electron.
In the 18 years since founding Farrar Scientific, Mr. Farrar has led a team of engineers and technicians responsible for designing and manufacturing specialty refrigeration equipment. In 2010, he founded Cool Containers, LLC, a manufacturing company created to produce the PharmaPort® 360, where he also served as Chief Technical Officer. In 2014, with the sale of Cool Containers, LLC and the expansion of Farrar Scientific into a larger and more diverse business, Mr. Farrar returned to the exclusive role of Chief Technical Officer.
Mr. Farrar lives in Marietta, Ohio and enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending time with his three children.
Tom Schoeppner is a Senior Electrical Engineer with responsibility for hardware and software design on new products, as well as providing electrical design support on existing products.
Joining the Farrar Scientific team in 2015, Mr. Schoeppner is an Ohio Registered Professional Engineer with 37 years of experience. After graduating from The University of Cincinnati with a BS in Electrical Engineering, he stayed in Ohio to start his career at Westinghouse Electric Corporation as a Design Engineer. Next, he moved to Vermont for a year with Dufresne-Henry as Design Engineer, then onto Pennsylvania for a Lead Design Engineer position with C-Cor Electronics. Queue Systems in West Virginia brought him to the Mid-Ohio Valley, where he spent three years as a Design Engineer. Staying local, Mr. Schoeppner worked as a Senior Design Engineer for the next 6 years at Forma Scientific in Ohio. In 1992, he founded Horatio Instruments in Marietta, Ohio, where he held the positions of President and Principal Engineer. Followed by 11 years with Teknetix in West Virginia, where he was employed in various positions culminating in Vice President of Engineering.
When Mr. Schoeppner is not working, he enjoys spending time outdoors, playing sports and hiking. He has been married for 36 years, is a father of four grown children, and currently resides in Marietta, Ohio.
Alex Roberts is an Electrical Design Engineer at Farrar Scientific Corporation with responsibility for design, development and testing of electrical equipment used in new product development and existing product improvement.
Prior to joining Farrar Scientific Corporation in June of this year, Mr. Roberts was working with Sunpower Inc. on the design and testing of a Stirling engine-based, NASA funded, Moon and Mars base power system. He brings his knowledge of embedded TI processor circuit design and C programming to Farrar Scientific, along with an expertise of analog and digital electronic circuit design. Mr. Roberts has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from West Virginia University, and a Certified Engineering Intern Certificate. In September 2013, he co-authored “Study of the effect of the charge transport layer in the electrical characteristics of the organic photovoltaics”, published in Optical Materials 2013 and Proc. SPIE 8823, Thin Film Solar Technology V.
Mr. Roberts lives in Parkersburg, WV with his wife. When he’s not at work, his interests include 3D modeling, 3D printing, and amateur radio.
Justin Pettit is a Mechanical Engineer at Farrar Scientific with responsibility for sheet metal and refrigeration design, new product development and existing product improvement.
He graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Justin resides in Vincent, Ohio, and loves the outdoors. His hobbies include hunting, fishing and riding motorcycles.
J. Douglas Mallett is the Chief Financial Officer at Farrar Scientific Corporation with responsibility for financial planning, asset management and overseeing the company’s accounting functions.
Prior to joining Farrar Scientific Corporation in 2014, Mr. Mallett held a variety of executive and financial positions, all of which provided him invaluable experience developing and implementing creative financial management strategies. During his 25 years with Marietta Savings Bank, he served as Executive Vice President, COO and CFO, handling all facets of the organization’s financial administration. Mr. Mallett founded WestMar Mortgage Company in 1991, where he held the positions of President and CEO for 9 years. For the last 40 years, he has been Founder/Partner of Mallett Rentals and for the last four years, Partner and CFO of MNW Energy LLC.
Mr. Mallett serves as Chairman of the Stewardship Commission at First Baptist Church of Marietta. He also serves as Chairman of the Washington County Children’s Services board. Mr. Mallett lives in Marietta, Ohio with his wife of 41 years, Becky. They have been blessed with three grown children and 7 grandchildren.
